Tools For Your Gundam Hobby

Just want to share to you some of the tools and items that you may or may not need for your Gundam hobby. I’ve taken pictures of the those I already owned for your reference and I will tell you what I think of those items so that you will know in case you are planning to buy one.

Basic Tools gundam Hobby

#1 – SIDE CUTTERS

A must have! kailangan meron ka nito.

the red and blue ones are the BANDAI side cutters included in the basic kit. The set includes one needle file, a nice tweezer and side cutter.
I did not like the quality of the Bandai side cutters. Ang dali mapurol, nawawala agad ung sharpness at mailis mabungi or mag-chip.  Tapos ang mahal pa. The second piece of the bandai sidecutter was bought by my girlfriend para sabay kami magbuo ng gundam. It costs 350 pesos from Best Toys Greenhills. While on the other hand, ung sinasabi kong set eh nag cost ng around 900 pesos.

The black side cutter is the one from ALEXAN. pre the best na nabili ko kasi ang ganda na nya for Gundams tapos 110 pesos lang! Sarap gamitin, sakto ung pressure pag pinipindot mo at malinis ang cut. You can cut close enough to the piece na hindi ka matatakot na pangit ung pinagputulan.
Meron Alexan sa 4th floor ng Mega A, saktong ibabaw ni Lil’s Hobby Shop pag tumingala ka from basement.

#2 – Gundam Marker or aka pang PANEL LINE

Fine tip markers that comes usually in black and grey. Depende sa taste ng nag detail. Black daw is for anime look at Grey is for natural, realistic look.

It cost around 130 pesos. Pero I buy mine at Wasabi Toy Store Greenhills in case you want to know.

We also tried using tech-pens and ok naman ang result.

#3 – EXACTO knife and Blade Cutters

Exacto Knife – though it does not exactly look like your common kitchen or army knife, it does perform the same way.

#4 – Gundam Paint Markers

Used mostly for coloring or adding highlights, details on your Gundam model kit. Think of it as acrylic or enamel paints on pens.

One set costs around 700+pesos. Per piece is around 150 pesos.

The most popular set is the SD BB Gundam Market which includes colors with metallic  finish. I love here the silver and gold colors. Next is the Seed Destiny Markers. For none metallic colors you can find this set useful. The weathering set is for battle damage and weathering effects (mukhang luma) of course. It doesn’t stick permanently and I think it is oil based.

#5 – Needle Files and Precision Screwdrivers

Meron sa SAIZEN nito. or other JAPAN HOME like na store.

Same goes with PG kits. maliliit din ang screws. Maganda ang BUFFALO brand sa mga ACE or Handyman shops or maski sa mga local hardware store nyo. 100 pesos yata bili ko. Yung nasa picture eh ung KYK na brand… mahina sya, nag loose agad ung pinakagamitin kong size… kaya bumili ako ng buffalo brand.

#6 – Airbrush Kits, Bottled and Spray Paints and BLU-TACK

In most cases, we would not be contented with using just the GUNDAM MARKER. hehe pag ganito na nangyari, ilabas mo na ang mas creative na side mo at gumamit na ng alin sa mga sumusunod:

Spray Paints – Applicable for paint jobs na hindi ganun ka-detailed. With spray paints kasi, limited control mo sa paint. Malaki ang area ng buga nito and most of the time kailangan mo ng MARAMING MASKING TAPE. haha. Usually BOSNY brand and recommended since acrylic based siya. It costs 120 – 150 pesos on ACE and Handyman.

Airbrush Kits – Applicable for detailed customization. And one note is that iba and finish ng airbrush, manipis at malinis. I’ve been using both kaya I can vouch for that. A good investment will cost you 5k above.

TAMIYA brand and sikat pag dating sa bottled paints though you can use whatever paint you want as long as alam mo ang basic chemistry ng paints. Pwede mo gamitin ito either with a brush or an airbrush. Magandang brand din ang tamiya brushes. As you can see in the picture below. marami akong brush, pero ung Tamiya brand and pinaka maganda at maayos gamitin. worth 100+ yata bili ko.

You can refer to the tutorial in the forum about paints and airbrush kung nalilito kayo.

BLU- TACK – reusable na clay like material.

  10. Unfortunately even when playing one has to perform the tedious
task of learning thoroughly. Preschool kids can
learn numbers and the alphabet or your grandma can find something she might like.
Consider only allowing your children to play games on consoles.

Ask ko lang, what king of bosny spray paint you use? Lacquer? Enamel? Or etc? 🙂
